"Over the years,  I’ve seen up close and personal the training and techniques that produce mixed martial arts champions, and while each gym is a little different, there is one thing that doesn’t change at all at a successful gym—and that is an  obsessive focus on conditioning. Thanks to the author of this book, Scott Shetler, I’ve discovered the great effectiveness of kettlebell training in getting the maximum effect in a relatively short period of time. I’m sure if you use this book and push yourself, you’ll get a great deal out of the exercises and techniques in it."

"I have been training and fighting in mixed martial arts for about five years and have just now gotten into weight training and conditioning with kettlebells for about six weeks. This has been the best workout I have ever done. My cardio has always been decent, but now I feel like the energizer bunny that can keep going and going! My mma abilities have progressed exponentially. My striking is like it has never been before. This workout has made my hands faster and more powerful than ever and believe it or not, even more technical. If anyone is looking to improve themselves as an mma fighter I would have to say that kettlebells are definitely the way to go!"

"I have trained kettlebells and strength and conditioning with Scott for over a year now and I have to say he is one of the most knowledgeable instructors/coaches I have come across in this industry.  I have also trained MMA in the past and when I began training with Scott, I could tell a big difference in my functional strength. I would highly recommend Scott as a conditioning coach/trainer and would highly recommend this book!"

"Several months ago, I started working with Scott and the Sport of Kettlebell to supplement my Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training.  I have found kettlebell training has improved so many aspects of my BJJ - especially my grip and my core strength.  I am one of a handful of female BJJ blackbelts in Canada and have recently started competing at the world level. I found working with Scott not only increased many of my kettlebell sport lifts but also carried over to my jiu jitsu game.  The majority of my training partners are men, often who are 20 and 30lbs heavier than me.  They often comment on my grip and core strength - a direct credit to the gains I've had with Scott's training. I was fortunate to work with Scott six months before the Abu Dhabi Pro Jiu Jitsu Trials and strongly believe part of my success was the extensive kettlebell work I did with him. Anyone - male or female, beginner to advanced - can benefit greatly from Scott's kettlebell training and ideas."

"Scott's program took my athletic performance to another level! I have never been as strong and explosive as when I left his gym. As a quarterback, I never spent alot of time on upper body explosiveness; however, after spending a few weeks with Scott, I was a different quarterback. I was able to add velocity and zip to my throws at every level. The cross-field comeback became an intermediate throw for me after this training program. I have always been strong in my lower body but not quite as powerful as I would like. That changed in just a few weeks with Scott. My forty time, broad jump, and vertical all were drastically increased. I can't stress enough how beneficial this program was for my athletic performance! Many thanks to Scott for working me and pushing me to new heights athletically!"

Blake on Kettlebell Training

"Before working with Scott, I had never seen or heard about kettlebell training. Afterwards, I was convinced kettlebell training should be included in every athlete's training program. Kettlebell training is a great tool for physical and mental toughness. Every athlete looks for something to add to his training regimen that gives him the edge over his opponent. Kettlebells will do just that. The unique nature of kettlebells allows athletes to train and work muscles in ways barbells and free weights cannot. I will from now on train with kettlebells!"

"Scott Shetler is one of the brightest young minds in the world of performance enhancement for athletes and weekend warriors.  He has a love and a passion for his craft that is rarely seen.  I have enjoyed learning from Scott and applying his advice into my training routine.  I am confident that with his professionalism, work ethic, positive attitude, and expertise he will make a tremendous impact on the lives of many athletes and weekend warriors."

"I have had the privilege of working with many athletic trainers over the nearly 40 years I have been in practice.  Never have I been more impressed than with the training techniques of Scott Shetler.  Failing to conform to the modern day mega facility and group training techniques so prevalent today, Scott trains each athlete in a highly personalized and caring way.  With smartcore, not hardcore, techniques and a Rocky Balboa mentality he believes that specific program implementation is the way to go.  I would wholeheartedly recommend Scott for any athlete wishing to be the best they can be!"

"I located Scott's "Extreme Conditioning & Fitness - Performance Training Systems" online and I was immediately interested in his program.  Once I contacted him I took a trip down to Georgia to work with him.  I was immediately impressed with the workout that he handed me and over the course of the week he personally taught me each of his lifts.  Once I learned how to do the lifts I came back home and began his program.  Over the course of the 12 week program I progressed drastically in the areas of power clean, bench, squat, vertical jump, and the forty yard dash.  Each of these areas is crucial for my improvement in football and achieving my dream of making it to the NFL.  From his program I now feel I have the ability to have a successful senior year and make it to the NFL."

Praise for the 2007 Football Combine Preparation Clinic

“When I first signed up for the combine performance clinic, I was somewhat hesitant because of the many sales schemes out there.  Just the opposite, Scott's seminar was productive and worth every dime.  Actually, I would say the information Scott provides is priceless.  I am glad that I participated in Scott's seminar as he is a true professional.  Scott gave us such valuable information that improved our testing times substantially.  I recommend Scott's seminar to any aspiring athlete looking to gain that extra edge.  If you are serious about doing your best at a combine, you definitely need to see Scott!!”

“Yesterday’s combine performance clinic was very informative and extremely helpful.  It was well worth the money and now I know what I need to do to get to my goals.  I liked that it was more of a one on one experience so I got the help that I needed specifically.  I also liked the hands on approach as opposed to just telling us what and how to do the correct and optimal techniques.  Thanks again!”

"Scott observed that my existing musculature could be enhanced by the addition of muscle for natural bodybuilding competitions. He suggested a unique training program, which targeted development of my weaker points. Additionally he recommended changes in my diet profile and consumption patterns. He added the phrase “eating clean” to my vocabulary. He introduced the idea of eating foods from a broader range of food sources, eating more frequently, monitoring my food intake with a food log and knowing the macro-nutrient composition of my diet.  Most importantly, he helped me to realize that my diet plays as much a role in developing lean muscle mass as does the physical training.  After six months of training and eating right, Scott suggested that I enter the SNBF Southern Open. For the next 12 weeks he methodically led me through my pre-contest preparations. He advised workout modifications, pre-contest diet changes, posing practice sessions and stage presentation. If bodybuilding is your goal, Scott is the complete coach A-Z.  Since Scott started coaching me over two years ago, I have placed fourth or better in all shows in multiple classes – masters, medium and lightweight."

“I've worked out with Scott for almost 4 years now and quite honestly, he's literally changed my life.  I originally met with him because I just wanted to "tone up", but since then I had a second child and he helped me lose 40 pounds and go from 30% body fat to 7%.  He can help you with whatever your goals are-- to tone up, lose weight (whether it's 10 or 100 pounds), add muscle, get in shape for a fitness competition, or get back in shape after the birth of a child.  He will tailor your workout to help you meet your goals in the most efficient way possible.  The world of fitness is filled with gimmicks and fad diets, but also with legitimate training methods, and ways to eat healthy.  So how do you sort through it all?  You hire a personal trainer.  But not just any trainer (believe me, I've tried others!).  Scott will customize your workout based on the goals you're trying to reach- he knows which methods work best, high reps vs. low reps, high weight vs. low weight, etc.  Take it from this 35 year old mother of two who's healthier and in better shape than she was in her twenties, it pays to hire a professional trainer... an expert in the field.  And there's no one more qualified than Scott.”

"Scott, I just want to thank you for the tremendous help your conditioning program offered.  As you may recall I approached you with my challenge – to provide me with a training regimen to help me scale Mt. Kilimanjaro – no small feat considering my physical condition at the time coupled with a six-week time frame.  To make a long story short, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that your program enabled me to reach the 19,340 ft. high summit.  I was only one of six out of a group of over thirty climbers to reach the summit on this expedition!  I was very impressed by the complete approach you took in assessing the physical demands for which we needed to prepare.  Your program not only included strength training and conditioning, but also the very crucial aspects of proper diet before and during the climb as well as the extreme demands put on climbers in low oxygen environments.  Again, thank you for your help.  I look forward to working with you in the future as we continue our quest to climb the highest peaks of each of the seven continents.  Denali may be next…."

"I met Scott through reading an article about kettlebell training in Atlanta Sports & Fitness Magazine.  As a husband, father, and avid triathlete and adventure racer, I have always known the importance of cardio training for long term health, but felt it was time to also be physically stronger.  I was intimidated at first to seek the help of a "strength" trainer, because I have always been the "weakest in the gym" when it comes to free weights! After one week training with Scott, I quickly realized he is excellent at assessing an individual's physical strengths and weaknesses and then tailoring a workout to meet an agreed upon goal.  "Relative Strength and Explosive Power" are the two main components of Scott's focus and he is able to apply this approach not only to the elite athletes he trains, such as football players, but also to adventure-sports athletes like myself.  In the past eight months, I have seen my endurance race-times decrease by over an hour from over four hours of competition to less than three hours.  I attribute this improvement mainly to the strength exercises, such as the glute/hamstring raise, that create that explosive power needed to reach new personal records in a race. Scott has also taught me to appreciate and respect my "relative strength" and physical training capabilities, instead of how much weight I can lift.  His knowledge of human physiology and proper exercise form, especially in power lifting, has allowed me to lift more weight, work out longer, and stay injury free.  I am now a firm believer of the "core strength" concept that a strong back and abdominals play a vital role in long-term health and injury avoidance.  Kettlebell training focuses on this concept, and although hard at times, is extremely rewarding with the proper motivation and direction from a trainer like Scott. Knowledge, motivation, patience, and adaptation are the qualities I have found in training with Scott.  I feel confident he is the type of trainer that can create long lasting physical health programs as my hobbies and needs change.  The results I have achieved so far would have taken me twice as long at a normal fitness club or gym, and I would have definitely seen an injury or two."

"I have worked with many trainers to prepare for competitions. Only Scott has offered such top quality training, reliability, and attitude. Scott's tremendous people skills allow him to be both tough and incredibly supportive. In addition, Scott participates in many of the activities in which he trains (powerlifting and kettlebells, among others). He follows his own advise and is passionate about helping others exceed their own goals."

"Scott's training has made me more explosive and raised my conditioning level to new heights.  His World Kettlebell Club kettlebell training also helps me prevent nagging injuries and strengthen weak points on my body, allowing me to improve my 40 yd dash time and increase my vertical jump from 29” to 39.5”!"

"I signed up for an elite combine and was really in need of help. I have always just worked out on my own never having a true workout plan or regimen. I took a trip down to Scott Shetler’s Extreme Conditioning & Fitness in Atlanta from Minneapolis and spent 4 days down there.  Scott hooked me up with an 8 week workout program. In this workout program I have seen huge gains in my core lifts. Scott also critiqued my form on the 40 and on the shuttle and with his critiques my times are lower than ever before as well. My combine is now this weekend and I have never felt more confident in my abilities than I do now.”
