Another Georgia kettlebell meet is in the history books, and this one was unquestionably the best yet!

I’ve been hosting meets now since 2008 and this year was the first time I ever sanctioned my competition under the American Kettlebell Alliance or AKA. The AKA has the goal of developing girevoy sport (i.e. kettlebell sport) at the international, national, regional, and local level. Working with them was quite easy and Yuri was always quite helpful anytime I needed something.

In addition to Yuri’s support through the AKA, KettleGuard sponsored the event and sent us sets of KettleGuards for promotion and prizes. KettleGuard is one of the biggest names in kettlebells, please visit their website at www.kettleguard.com to see a complete line of their products.

The location of the event was the amazing strength training & conditioning facility at Greater Atlanta Christian School. Huge thanks to Gary Schofield for making this happen!

Also a big thanks to those who helped out with the meet, judges: Coach Serhiy Hetmanenko, Mike Sherman, and Brian Gausman; and time-keeper: Marist High School Strength & Conditioning coach Scott Mandy.

Also a special thanks to Luke “That Would Be Most Unfortunate” Reynolds for taking care of the music!

We ended up with 29 registered lifters, and the performances were nothing short of exceptional. We had beginners, experienced lifters, and everyone in between-regardless of the level of experience, it’s safe to say that everyone left it all out on the platform!

In the men’s biathlon we saw Jay Trunzo, in his first appearance on the kettlebell sport platform in the veteran’s division, put up some huge numbers for his first go-round’! Be sure to hit Jay’s April 5, 2014 meet - the 2nd Annual Punch Gym Kettlebell Sport Championship in sunny Sarasota, FL! The amateur division saw Jacob McGill starting off strong in the jerk but suffered a heart-breaker in the snatch when he lost the bell on his first arm of snatches. It is terrible when that happens, but unfortunately it happens from time to time in this sport. Seasoned lifters Mike Sherman and Jason Sanchez duked it out for the best lifter award and Mike edged Jason out by a fraction of a point!

The men’s long cycle had a big turnout, highlighted by best lifter Josh Dunn’s professional debut. In addition to hitting a personal record and winning the overall long cycle title, Josh’s efforts earned him an AKA Candidate for Master of Sport (CMS) ranking. The amateur division had some very tight competition in the big-boy division between David Cooke, Drew Buford, and Doug Seamans; with new-comer Michael Logrono and experienced lifter John Beamon rounding out the lighter weight classes. John Sansone has been supporting kettlebell sport efforts in Atlanta for many years now and turned in a great set in the veteran’s division; and the beginner’s division saw Jonathan Moorehead and Jon Spencer putting up great sets.

The women’s biathlon was the smallest event with Lorraine Reynolds winning the overall best lifter, and kettlebell sport youngsters, sisters Carmen and Hope Francis rounding out the biathlon division.

The women’s snatch division saw veteran’s class lifter Phyllis Stennis going the full 10 minutes in her first-ever competition set. Karen Trunzo and Jenny Perkins put up great sets in the beginner and amateur classes respectively, and pro-lifter Erin Moraites stole the show winning the best overall lifter in the snatch event and achieving her AKA CMS ranking!

The women’s long cycle had many lifters and saw some tight competition in the the amateur division. The beginner division had nice sets by Debbie Green and first-time lifter Jenn Casey. The amateur division was tight in the 68kg+ division between teammates Teri Stabler, Kellie Albee, and Wendie Price; with each lady making rankings. The lighter weight classes were rounded out by Lindsay Seamans, Lisa Frank, and Marianne Hitchcox put on a gutsy performance by going 1-arm the entire 10 minutes on ONE ARM! Marianne broke her arm a couple of weeks prior to the meet and rather than pull-out said, my other arm is fine, I’m doing this thing! World Champion, Svitlana Krechyk dominated the long cycle category by putting up a HUGE 103 reps with the 28kg kettlebell, a performance that earned her an AKA Master of Sport World Class ranking.

The competition concluded with the awards ceremony, beautiful trophies, medals and lifter ranking pins courtesy of the AKA and in addition best lifters were awarded plaques and KettleGuards.

I was thrilled by the response from the lifters, everyone seemed to have a great time, the meet went very smoothly, and I am excited for next year’s meet!

Thanks to you all for making this meet the success it was! Now get back to training…

Just as with physical exercise, you build and strengthen the muscles of the body. If you've worked out before in your life you know what I'm talking about. Well the same will apply when you start doing facial exercises! You might be asking yourself, what are face yoga exercises? Basically, they are simple face exercises or better yet, face and neck exercises that bring tone and harmony to your facial muscles. There's excellent facial exercises for a rounder face or face exercises to avoid double chin or even exercises for a slimmer face that will help bring better balance to your face and help the muscles look more defined and sculpted.

Greetings everyone on this 18th day of October 2012, I sincerely hope your day is going better than those who live in Syria where the refugee border camps are filling up and neighboring nations can't really afford to take anymore, as 36,000 people have already died in that civil war according to UN figures, which I guess one could say are unreliable, nevertheless my sources do tell me the numbers is very high, perhaps even close to that 36K number. So, it's a tragedy anyway you look at it.
